NC State Fair: Where to find the best food and drink deals – The Fayetteville Observer

RALEIGH — Fair food is rarely confused with fine dining, but trying all the deep-fried, over-the-top creations you have your eyes set on at the North Carolina State Fair might leave you a bit light in the wallet.

Thankfully, there are plenty of food and drink deals at the fair that won’t break the bank, whether you have a family to feed, or just don’t want to spend a lot of dough.

A Carolina-style red hot dog ($3) topped with chili, mustard, onions and slaw from Tim's Ole Time Hot Dogs at the North Carolina State Fair.

It’s hard to resist the smell of the sizzling Italian and Polish sausages and peppers and onions that waft through just about every nook and cranny of the fair, but you’ll likely have to drop $10+ for one of those heaping sandwiches.

On the other hand, a hot dog can be had for much less.

The cheapest I found was $3 at a few different stalls, including Tim’s Ole Time Hot Dogs, located just inside Gate 9, where they’ll top either a Nathan’s beef dog or a Carolina-style red dog with your choice of free toppings. A proper Carolina hot dog with slaw, chili, mustard and onions for $3? That’s a deal anywhere.
