The best restaurants in Palo Alto, San Jose, the Peninsula and the South Bay – San Francisco Chronicle

This essential stretch of the Bay Area encompasses Silicon Valley as well as San Jose, California’s third-most populous city, and has an extensive food scene to match. Waves of immigration from the Middle East, South Asia, Latin America and Southeast Asia have left an indelible mark on the region’s culture, as I saw when I embarked on taco crawls through Redwood City; sampled snacks from all the chaat trucks I could find in Sunnyvale; and drank bowl after bowl of hot chicken soup in San Jose’s Vietnam Town. I wish there was another me who could devote her life to this part of the Bay Area, but until then, I’ll remain a frequent visitor. So far, these are my favorite spots.
